Our Clients
Adding to its diverse client base, Caplan Cobb represented:
- Fortune 100, 500, 1000, 5000, and international companies in the healthcare, financial services, retail, manufacturing, media, professional services, insurance, real estate, and payment processing sectors;
- a variety of healthcare clients, including pharmaceutical manufacturers and marketers, healthcare providers, and practice-management firms;
- media companies, including print and broadcast;
- technology companies in the retail, application development, consumer services, and payment spaces;

Notable Successes
On behalf of plaintiffs, Caplan Cobb lawyers:
- Secured a substantial relator’s share in an $84.5 million settlement of a federal False Claims Act case on behalf of a whistleblower who alerted the government to corruption at a major public hospital network;
- successfully resolved a retirement benefits class action for a settlement value in excess of $14.5 million;
- confidentially settled a fraud and breach-of-fiduciary case which involved a buyout of a private equity client’s interests in a major film production company;
- confidentially settled a shareholder dispute which led to a buyout of our client’s interest at nearly a 300% premium; and
- on behalf of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and WSB-TV, obtained systemic reform of the City of Atlanta’s compliance with the Open Records Act, which included the enactment of an ordinance creating a new Transparency Office, city-wide training, and a website that will include all records requests, responses, and response times to ensure future compliance.
On the defense side, Caplan Cobb lawyers:
- Obtained vacatur of a more than $7 million jury verdict in a breach-of-fiduciary-duties and trade-secrets case;
- on behalf of a large vehicle manufacturer, secured a complete defense judgment, following trial, in a customer dispute;
- won summary judgment for a client in a covenant-not-to-compete case seeking over $5 million in damages;
- won an appeal affirming the dismissal of a fraudulent inducement case alleging that our client had committed fraud in the sale of securities and breach fiduciary duties as director of a privately held company;
- won summary judgment on multiple, independent grounds in a fraud case brought by an oil company.
Recognition
In its fifth year, our attorneys were recognized by a variety of organizations and publications.
Michael Caplan and James Cobb were included in American Law Media’s and Martindale-Hubble’s list of Top Rated Lawyers in Georgia.
In addition, James Cobb was recognized as a Georgia Super Lawyer by Georgia Super Lawyers Magazine, and Michael Caplan, Julia Stone, and Sarah Brewerton-Palmer were selected by the same publication as Rising Stars in Business Litigation.
Pro Bono & Community Service
Caplan Cobb lawyers continued their commitment to community service by serving in leadership positions for a number of non-profits, including the Southern Center for Human Rights, the Wylde Center, the ACLU of Georgia, and the Fernbank Museum of Natural History.
As a firm, we participated in the Georgia Legal Food Frenzy supporting the Atlanta Community Food Bank in April. We came in second place in total points scored in the Atlanta market in the small firm category. Our team also supported ServiceJuris Day in June by cleaning, pressure-washing, and painting at a local middle school.
Caplan Cobb lawyers handled a number of legal matters on a pro bono basis:
- Sarah Brewerton-Palmer drafted an amicus brief on behalf of the Georgia First Amendment Foundation and the Southern Poverty Law Center in support of a suit seeking to enforce the Georgia Open Records Act.
- Michael Caplan, Brandon Waddell, and Sarah Brewerton-Palmer provided research assistance to the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington for several of their current lawsuits.
- Michael Caplan and Julia Stone served as co-counsel for the Southern Center for Human Rights in a successful class action against Sentinel Offender Services related to the over-charging of probation fees, which resulted in a settlement providing complete relief.
Continuing Education
- Sarah Brewerton-Palmer presented at the State Bar of Georgia’s “Nuts and Bolts of Civil Appellate Practice”
- James Cobb and Sarah Brewerton-Palmer spoke at the annual Fraud and Forensic Accounting Conference conducted by the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants.
